Pedaling Education Forward in Rural Sri Lanka

The Rotary Club of Colombo Centennial proudly handed over 16 bicycles to schoolchildren in Welioya on the 4th of October 2025, under the Hope on Wheels initiative. 🚴‍♀️🚴‍♂️

For many of these children, attending school meant walking over an hour each way under the scorching sun. With these bicycles, that journey is now safer, quicker, and filled with new hope for education and opportunity. 💙

🙏 Our heartfelt gratitude goes to Rotary International District 2982 (India) for their generous donation, Immediate Past District Governor Sushena Ranatunga for his leadership, and the District 3220 Hope on Wheels Team for managing the initiative from start to finish.

Special thanks also go to IPP Crysantha Perera, during whose term this initiative began, and Ven. Monarawela Sadda Mangala Thero for helping identify the most deserving students.
