The Rotary Club of Colombo Centennial successfully
launched the Safe Sanitation Initiative – Welioya on the
29th of April 2026 to support six vulnerable families in
Welioya by refurbishing broken and unsafe toilet
facilities. The project focused on repairing and upgrading
damaged sanitation facilities to ensure they are safe,
hygienic, and functional for daily use, particularly for
women, children, and elderly family members.
The need for the initiative was identified through
community visits and discussions with families facing
sanitation challenges due to financial limitations. By
improving access to safe sanitation, the project aims to
enhance health, hygiene, safety, and dignity while
contributing towards long-term community well-being
and improved living conditions.
