On August 3rd, Vinod Samarawickrama, Manager of Connectivity Program APAC at Meta Platforms Inc., demystified the buzz around Meta and the Metaverse at a special event co-hosted by the Rotary Club of Colombo Port City, Rotary Club of Cinnamon Gardens, and Rotary Club of Colombo Centennial. He shared insights into what the Metaverse truly means and its potential impact on Sri Lanka, sparking engaging conversations about the future of technology and connectivity.

Road Safety in Sri Lanka: A Talk by DIG Indika Hapugoda
The Rotary Club of Colombo Centennial organized an insightful session titled “Road Safety in Sri Lanka”, focused on promoting disciplined behavior among pedestrians and drivers while raising awareness of road safety rules and procedures. The event was honored by the presence of Deputy Inspector General of Police – Traffic Admin & Road Safety, Mr. H.A.K.A. Indika Hapugoda, who served as the resource person and shared valuable guidance on fostering safer roads for all.

Dry Ration Drive: Supporting Families in Need
The Rotary Club of Colombo Centennial organized a dry ration collection and distribution drive to support low-income families and daily wage earners severely affected by the ongoing economic crisis. This week, essential packs were distributed to the most vulnerable families in the Koralawella South GS division. The committee extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to this meaningful and impactful initiative.

Our Role in Rebuilding Sri Lanka – Session 2: The Ethical Role of the Corporate Sector
The second session of the Rotary Club of Colombo Centennial’s “Our Role in Rebuilding Sri Lanka” series took place on September 14th, 2022, at the Galadari Hotel under the theme “Ethical Role of the Corporate Sector – Good, Bad and the Ugly.” The session featured Dr. Ajith Medis, Senior Lecturer at the University of Kelaniya and a past member of the club, as the guest speaker. The event drew participation from current Rotarians and prospective members, and concluded with a valuable session of networking and fellowship.

Learning ICT Towards Economic Freedom – Inspiring the Next Generation
The Rotary Club of Colombo Centennial conducted an impactful awareness program at Sri Sumangala Central College, Matara, under the theme “ඉගෙනුමින් ආර්ථික නිදහසක් කරා” – Learning ICT Towards Economic Freedom. Aimed at encouraging students to embrace ICT as a tool for innovation and problem-solving, the session highlighted how technology can drive Sri Lanka’s path to economic independence. Over 150 students participated, drawing inspiration from real-life stories of Sri Lankan entrepreneurs creating locally relevant solutions using global approaches.
